Grand Opening! The Drop-in at Artscape Youngplace
TUESDAY, Feb. 18 from 4-8 p.m.
location: 180 Shaw St. at Artscape Youngplace (enter at Shaw St.)
Fantastic news for parents and caregivers in the downtown west end.
The Trinity Spadina Ontario Early Years Centre (OEYC) run by College Montrose Children’s Place quietly opened its doors January– in their brand-new and delightfully renovated space in Artscape Youngplace.
If you haven’t checked it out — later today is the perfect time: It’s their official Grand Opening from 4-8 p.m. (Tuesday, Feb 18)
Arrive by 4:30 to see Afro-Brazilian musical group Uma Nota lead an interactive music workshop for families. There are refreshments for adults and kids alike, and events continue through the afternoon and evening. Click here for the details.
The new Trinity Spadina OEYC will offer the same programs College Montrose Children’s Place is known for: quality drop-in activities, snacks, reading circles and parenting workshops.
The space is the largest caregiver-and-child drop in in the area, with separate rooms for babies and toddlers, so little ones can feel safe exploring whether running, crawling or lying on a blanket with a teething toy.
- College Montrose Place is big on providing food to the kids and caregivers who use their services. There’s always coffee and tea for parents and snacks for the kids during drop in hours. Dinner and child care are provided at evening workshops — which range in topics from children’s CPR to developing math literacy in families.
- Very soon: local grandmothers are coming back to cook hot, homemade soup for program users — tradition at College Montrose Place for over twenty years.
- Parents can access the centre’s relief services for any reason (once their child is used to centre staff) — most especially much-needed ‘me’ time, according to Filomena Costa, the volunteer and outreach coordinator at College Montrose Place.
- Except for two weeks during the holidays, the centre will be open year round! No summer lull – thanks goodness!
Check out their program calendar here — better yet, print it out and hang it where you can see it!
