My family and I lived in New York City and one of my favourite times of year was Fashion Week. Designers, models, photographers and stylists flocked to midtown (although now the ‘tents’ are uptown, at Lincoln Center) and the energy was incredible.
So, in honour of New York Fashion Week (February 9-17) I wanted to design a little wearable work of art. Take a look at what I made:
Materials:
- White paper
- Markers
- Iron-On transfer paper
- Scanner/Printer
- T-shirt

Process:
1. Decide on your idea – I choose a cartoon-style family portrait
2. Sketch out your design
3. Make a copy of the design and experiment with colour choices – I found the more vibrant the colours the better the final t-shirt
4. Scan your coloured sketch, then print it out on the iron-on transfer paper
5. Iron the transfer to a t-shirt
6. Peel back the transfer
7. Tada! A one-of-a-kind t-shirt designed by you (and your kids)! Read more...
valentine's day
Because it’s fun to look festive

Jean the Artful Parent is so good! Check out her treasure trove of Valentine’s Day craft ideas! We liked the heart doily t-shirts especially.
You’ll need:
- Heart doilies
- T-shirts
- Fabric paint
- Paint roller/brush
- Plate/other paint vessel
- Scrap paper
Steps:
- Using scrap paper to cover your work surface, set heart doily down right side up
- Pour fabric paint onto plate and roll paint roller through
- Apply to doily
- Place doily onto t-shirt and cover with more scrap paper
- Press down to ensure paint makes an even heart print
- Lift off paper and doily and let dry overnight
