Writer/Director Tim Burton Needs Help With His Stainboy Project

While those of you in Toronto can check out art from the quirky director’s various films at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, everyone can contribute (!!!) to Tim Burton’s next story, even if you can’t see his Edward Scissorhands sketches up close.

Using Cadavre Exquis (Exquisite Corpse, which sounds pretty Burton-y to us), a technique in which various contributors add to a collective story in sequence, Burton has invited his fans to tell the story of Stainboy. It begins:

Stainboy, using his obvious expertise, was called in to investigate mysterious glowing goo on the gallery floor.

How can you contribute? Read the last line (at posting, it was “The violent swings caused small pieces of the ceiling to fall down on the goo, causing a strange reaction.”) and get on Twitter to write what you think the next line should be. Tag your tweets with #BurtonStory to ensure they get read!

Stories to Shorten the Road

winter_road_smallThe Irish have a saying: Giorraìonn beirt bòthar. It means, literally, “two shorten the road” and refers to the fact that sharing conversation and stories with a friend can make a journey seem shorter, more pleasant. Well-loved Montreal storyteller, Hobbes (a.k.a. John David Hickey) uses this sentiment to title his biweekly podcast.  Each podcast is a recording of one of his storytelling engagements. Stories range from traditional legends to outrageous lies, all told in an engaging, lively manner.
