Dare to Draw Final Assignment: Draw Your Hands

Throw that last drawing up on the fridge (if there’s any room left), and give that tiny, trembling hand a high five. Retire those crayons (temporarily!) and relax – you and your kid should feel great about contributing your time and creative energy to turning the tides of AIDS in Africa.

Seeing the masterpieces that poured into our Facebook page from our team not only made our day here at Bunch, but truly helped make a difference in the world. We hope your kid never forgets the part they got to play in the huge and important movement spearheaded by the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Those drawings helped put money directly into the hands of community based organizations working on the front lines of the AIDS pandemic in Africa. We at Bunch are in awe of your dedication and thank you.

Dare to Draw Assignment 26: Stars in the Sky

What to draw today:

Hannah Potter drew the stars in the dark sky above her house. That’s her standing next to the big tree behind her house, looking up at the stars.

How’s the Dare campaign coming in your house? Jen Farr, who runs Kitchen Counter Chronicles wrote a great summary and displayed some of the artwork her girls have done, like ts “where food comes from” assignment.

Wow! We can’t believe there are only four more dares left to go! Best start getting those pledge dollars in!

Dare to Draw Assignment 25: Your Community

A fine dare to draw challenge for day 25

For today’s assignment, 4-year-old Hannah drew her family with all the other families they hang out with. Looks like a fun community!

And from a previous assignment, here’s Sam’s neighbourhood:

And, we can say with some authority, it also has a pretty great community.

Have you made good on your promise to sponsor each drawing? Donate to the Stephen Lewis Foundation so they can continue their work with community groups in Africa.

Dare to Draw Assignment 23: Your Favourite Game

Darers drawing what they love to do!

Today’s Dare to Draw challenge is to draw your favourite game. Hannah Potter loves hockey, good Canadian that she is, so that’s what she drew. Also, note her players are drawn in blue. Go Leafs go!

What do your kids love to play? Soccer? Candyland? Hopscotch? The floor is lava? Oooh, we’d really love to see an illustration of the floor is lava. We’d probably draw hula hoops… is that a game?

Here’s Hannah working hard on  that hockey drawing:

If you’ve fallen behind a few days, you can always refer back to the Dare to Draw page and check out the assignment list. And don’t forget to check off which drawings are completed and sponsored.

Dare to Draw Assignment 22: Where Food Comes From

Yes! Another concept drawing!

Today’s challenge is to draw where food comes from. Like where water comes from, we figure kids will come up with an assortment of explanations. Will your kids interpret food as coming from whatever parent has prepared it for consumption? A trip to the grocery store? Will they draw some modern pastoral with farmers’ fields as far as the eye can see?

Hannah Potter drew her family’s weekly trip to the Halifax Farmer’s Market, which is one of our favourite places to get food. Is that a visit to a produce stand in the picture, or perhaps a cinnamon bun from Mary’s Bread Basket? We’re guessing it’s not the buck-a-chuck oyster guys (a personal favourite).

And how did all the weekend drawings go? We’ve got a couple more from Hannah, including a portrait of her doctor and a wildcard where she did indeed let her markers go wild:

Dare to Draw Assignment 19: Draw a Virus

The daring drawers take on a virus

Teaching kids about HIV/AIDS is no easy task, even when you break it down into parts. Kids may know the word virus, but since it’s something we can’t see without the help of a microscope, it’s hard to know exactly what is it a what’s it’s doing in someone’s body. We thought getting kids to illustrate “virus” would yield some interesting results and we haven’t been disappointed.

Above, Cynthia’s kids, Suvi, Max and Finn, all drew a single cell of a viral bug and assigned it a name and personality. From left to right: the Bully Bug, which pretends to be nice, the Blood Bug, which presumably gets into your blood and wrecks havoc and the Footie Bug, which we’re guessing turns one into a soccer hooliganism. We hear it’s caused quite the epidemic in parts of the UK. Or maybe it just likes feet, we’re not sure but it looks fantastic.

Dare to Draw Assignment 18: Draw a Teacher

What the daring drawers are drawing today

What did 4-year-old darer Hannah Potter draw for a teacher? Since she’s not in school yet, it’s her mom, Stephanie, teaching Hannah her letters. (We’re guessing Hannah will be in pretty good shape when she starts kindergarten next year.)

Dare to Draw Assignment 12: A Map of Your Neighbourhood

Drawers, here’s today’s Dare:

Hannah Potter starts us off today with a drawing of her neighbourhood in Halifax, NS.

From her mom:

“After some explaining Hannah really like this one. We live on a cul-de-sac that has its own playground attached. She drew the whole family at the playground, and Daddy is helping her go down the slide! Also, she drew our house in orange so everyone would know which was ours. Haha.”

Love it!

And from a previous Dare to Draw assignment, here’s Matthew’s drawing of a hero. He chose to draw Wolverine transforming into a Tigerman. Um, when does this kid get his own comic book, because that needs to happen.

Happy Daring and Drawing, friends! We’re just about halfway through! What have been your favourite assignments? What’s been your kids’ favourite to draw?

Dare to Draw Assignment 11: Your School

Dare to Draw Day 11

Today’s assignment: Draw your school. Have those kids draw the place they go to learn and stuff! Hannah’s not quite in school yet, but she’s made a visit to the school she’ll attend next year. Above is her drawing herself opening the door.

And we figured we needed to share some of the previous days’ drawings, because we thought they were so, so great.

Here’s Matthew’s wildcare drawing of a boy and a monster. Matthew is five. Five.

Another wildcard drawing, this one is from Max of Maxytoot fame. We’re guessing he took “wildcard” literally? Regardless, it turned out awesome.

And here’s Jen’s girl dreaming her princess dream:

OK parents! Get those kids to make their school drawings and check it off their assignment list!

Dare to Draw Assignment 10: Draw Your Shoes

What the daring drawers will draw today

Today’s assignment is draw your shoes. Hannah Potter couldn’t decide between her sneakers and her boots, so she drew both. Those purple boots look pretty fancy with all their laces! What shoes do you think your kids will draw, their soccer cleats? Ballet shoes? Maybe they’re missing summer and just want to draw their sandals. We’ve seen some pretty awesome kid-sized rainboots around the city, so we wouldn’t be surprised if those boots inspired a few drawings.

And how did those wild cards turn out? Cynthia Kinnunen’s daughter Suvi, super creative girl that she is, decided to cross Professor Dumbledore with a bumblebee and drew us a Dumblebee. Love it.

Tell those kids to keep drawing! They’re doing such great work! And as always, feel free to share your kids’ drawing efforts with us, either via email (meghan@bunchfamily.ca) or uploading right to the Dare to Draw Facebook page.

Dare to Draw Assignment 8: Wildcard!

Yes, yes, ya’ll, it’s the first wildcard

Hannah Potter opted to draw Jessie from the Toy Story series (we like her boots!) as well as Bullseye the horse, a butterfly and a castle. We think we know what her favourite movie is. Tell those kids to draw whatever comes to mind! Can’t wait to see what they come up with.

And how is  your Dare to Draw experience going? Do the kids like the chart so they can check off their assignments? Are you contributing a loonie a day, or will you combine all the donations at the end?

If you don’t want to sign up for a Dare campaign profile, you can always just donate your kids’ pledge money directly to Team Bunch.

Dare to Draw Assignment #5: Draw Your Family

What your darers are drawing today:

We’ve been looking forward to this one. Kids’ renditions of their families are always so wonderful. Here’s Hannah Potter’s family, from left to right: Dad, biggest little brother, littlest little brother, Hannah, Mom and baby sister. Love it!

Sticking with the family theme, yesterday’s grandparent portraits turned out pretty well from what we saw! Jen from Kitchen Counter Chronicles shared her daughters’ drawings of their grandmother, which were totally ace:

All right! Four drawings down, 26 to go! Get those kids cracking on those family portraits! And don’t forget to check off $1 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation with every drawing your kid makes.
