Old School Still Cool

Sea Monkeys: When Toys Come to Life. For Real.

Cynthia Kinnunen blogs about sharing stuff from your childhood with your kids

Do you remember those quirky toys or games or whatevers that you had as a child?  You know, the ones that weren’t quite mainstream but still had the distinct possibility of being fun or cool?

Like gooney bird marionettes?  Really? You haven’t heard of those? Or Stretch Armstrong?

OK, how about Sea Monkeys? Ah, good old Sea Monkeys. I didn’t think these little rascals were even around anymore until the kids received some for Christmas. I laughed out loud when they were opened, thinking to myself “Ah, I had those as a kid and they never grew. Totally fake! How can they still sell those things?!”

They sat in their plastic “fishtank” wrapped in cellophane for over a month before the kids finally asked if we could grow them already. You know, like plants. I guess it was long enough to wait for disappointment.
