Billy Kelly in NOW! Magazine

We were in Now! Magazine proving once again that media is incapable of writing about urban parents without being snide. Having said that, we 98 percent really like this article and appreciate the coverage. However, we caution the twenty-somethings who often write these articles about us “aging hipsters” (le sigh): you too shall walk this path at some point and then you will be glad there is good music for families.

An Interview with Kindie Sensation Billy Kelly

We find out what it takes to be a hit with the preschool set

How did you get into the Kindie music scene?

I vowed never to make a kids’ music CD. I do adult music, well, I guess that’s just called music, and I’d been doing that for a long time. I have two little girls and over the years I just wrote a bunch of songs for them. At the beginning of 2009, I ended up a whole pile of songs that I’d written for them. Just as a goof, I just decided to make a record of them and I made that thinking I would sell it to preschools or at events. Then it quickly got picked up by Sirius XM satellite radio and National Public Radio. Within about two weeks they’d called up to ask about it. So I decided that I should actually pursue this.

I Eat Kids: Underage Rock Superstars

We talked to the girls from I Eat Kids to see what it takes to be a rockstar before you’re even old enough to get in the club

Roll call. I Eat Kids are:

Zoe Abernethy — guitar, drums, bass and piano
Edi Abernethy — bass and drums
Georgia Harmer — drums, guitar and piano
Jessa Harmer — tambourine and piano
Sadie Narowski Vesely — guitar, drums and piano
Oliver Narowski Vesely — tambourine and bass

Everyone sings.

Georgia, Sadie and Zoe answered a few questions for us on how I Eat Kids came to be:

Why did you want to start a band?
Originally, when we were 5 and 6, we started a band because we wanted to become famous rock stars. As we got more into it, we kept at it because we love playing as a band and performing together.

Kale and Brandon Flowers: How-To Take Your Kid to a Rock Show

Michelle and husband Dave want to give their sons unique experiences

We’re all about sharing our passions with our kids. For Michelle and Dave, that passion is music. Their boys Kale, 7, and Desmond, 3, are well on their way to becoming serious little rockers. When Michelle found out that Brandon Flowers was coming to town, she and Dave figured it would make for a great first concert for Kale.

How did Kale get interested in Brandon Flowers?

We’re always on top of the new music and I grew up around the early punk scene in Toronto, so music’s always been a big thing for me and a big thing for Dave. We downloaded Flamingo and started playing it in the car (We’ve always got music going in the car) and Kale just loved it. When I found out he was coming, it just seemed like a great first concert to take him too.
