Holding a Garage Sale with your Kids

Finally say goodbye to that one-legged Spiderman

The first long weekend of the summer is quickly approaching, the weather is finally beginning to improve (or so we’re told) and here at Bunch we are itching to clean out our stuffed closets and overflowing shelves. It’s basically the perfect time to start thinking about holding a garage sale. We know, it sounds like a lot of work and we admit it can be a bit daunting. However, it’s the perfect opportunity to de-clutter your life, reacquaint yourself with your neighbours and teach your kids some really great lessons along the way. And heck, you may even make some sweet scratch to help support your family’s summer ice cream habit.

There are lots of websites that will help you plan and execute a super successful yard sale, such as Frugal Dad and All Things Thrifty, but we were more concerned with how to get the kids involved. Below are some of our favourite ideas.

DIY Egg-Shaped Crayons and Sidewalk Chalk

Not one, but TWO awesomely easy crafts for your Easter-y enjoyment.

We all have them laying around the house. Little bits of red crayons here, a blue without its paper wrapper over there, why not gather them all together and make some recycled crayons? We hunted around the interwebs and located these awesome egg-shaped baking trays, perfect for forming your crusty old crayons into cool eggs. (Yes, we know we pull out this craft for every holiday, but recycled crayons are our favourite.)

You’ll need:

  • wax crayons
  • non-stick egg muffin pan

Steps:

  1. Get out your old crayons. Take off the paper and break them up into smaller pieces.
  2. Put crayons pieces into the non-stick baking pan, filling each cup about half way.
