Toddler Memories, What to Eat When You’re Eating For Two and the Morgue Miracle Baby

What we’re reading today:

1. It used to be that we thought babies and toddlers always live in the present; not so! They remember much more than we think they do.

2. There’s been a lot of talk recently about healthy pregnancies and how much an expecting mother should eat, so here are some guidelines as to what you should be eating.

3. The teacher bias against girls in math. Teachers! Come on! What about the female math teachers? Can we all make a pact that we’ll try and spread the “girls can do math and science” notion as often as we can?

4. Did you hear about that stillborn baby who wasn’t so stillborn? Oh. My. Gosh. The baby was born three months premature, was immediately declared stillborn and the mom didn’t even get to hold her since the baby was immediately sent to the morgue. When mother and father went to visit her in the morgue to say their hello-goodbyes, the baby stirred and cried. The baby, Luz Milagros, is getting stronger and the parents are suing the hospital.

News Round-Up March 27: Canceled Easter Egg Hunts, Mad Men’s Joan as a Mommy Blogger’s Dream and a SAHD Understands Betty Draper

What we’re reading today:

1. Today in Parents Ruin Everything, organizers canceled an Easter egg hunt in Colorado because last year some parents were way too aggressive in their egg-hunting and didn’t let the kids have their fun.

2. An Australian couple prematurely had their baby in B.C. and like most preemies, their baby required some serious time at the NICU, about $1, 000, 000-worth actually. It’s not covered in their travel insurance and Canada has no reciprocal health-care agreements with Australia. Solution: We keep Baby Piper! Kidding, her parents brought her back to Sydney, but what about that bill?

News Round-Up Jan. 19: Lightning Babies, the Dooce Separation and an 8-Year-Old Sings Hardcore

What we’re reading today:

1. A pregnant lady was struck by lightning, then had to wait out the remaining six months of her pregnancy before finding out what effect the lightning had on her baby girl. She’s good and healthy, but we’re with the dad here and are waiting to hear about her superpowers.

2. Speaking of miracle babies, a jolt of caffeine could help protect preemies from developing cerebral palsy and other motor function-affecting conditions.

3. Dooce, known to the non-blogosphere as Heather Armstrong, has announced via blog that she and her husband are separating. More on Dooce, obviously.

4. A new study shows that teens raised by gay parents are just as happy as other teens. <Insert Kids Are All Right reference here> But man, we did enjoy that movie. Sorry Meri!

News Round-Up September 9: Parents Can Soothe Preemies By Holding Them, Kate Winslet’s Son OK If He’s Gay and Lying To Your Kids

What we’re reading today:

1. Stop lying to your kids! If they’re not doing great at something, don’t tell them they are.

2. Kate Winslet’s son, age 7, knows it’s OK if he grows up to be gay.

3. Preemies who need blood drawn show less pain when they’re being held by mom or dad, but especially mom.

4. Do you monitor the music your kids listen to? Do they sing along to Lady Gaga without actually knowing what she means by disco stick?

5. Harry Potter’s first press conference! Look how cute they are!!
