Sheet Painting: The Ultimate Outdoor Art Project

Everything you need to know to make your own mega mural

There’s a whole of great, tiny art, but sometimes you just gots to go big.

To set up:

Clean and dry your sheet so there are no wrinkles that get in the way of painting. Hang the sheet on the clothes line and make sure it’s low enough to the ground so you can rest rocks along the bottom to make it taut. Or, if you have a fence in your backyard, drape a plastic sheet over it (an old shower curtain liner will do), securing with duct tape if need be, then drape the sheet over. Now, set up your studio with some serious buckets of water and old towels for clean up along the way.

DIY Watercolours: A Different Kind Of Cake

Krista Rao blogs about crafty adventures with her kids

I save bottle caps. There, I said it. I save them for a variety of projects that I never really get around to… until now.

This weekend we used a very small portion of my caps to make watercolour cakes. As with my other tutorials, this is a very easy craft that you can make along side your kids and provides a lot of fun for everyone.

What you need:

  • 1 tbsp clear vinegar
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp corn syrup
  • food colouring
  • bottle caps

Four Year Old Opens NYC Art Show

Kick butt art happens at any age

Here at Bunch we were blown away by this BBC report on Aelita Andre, a 4-year-old who is opening her first gallery exhibit at the Agora Gallery in Manhattan. Gallery curator Angela DiBello characterizes Aelita’s work as both Abstract Expressionism and Surrealist for her creative use of objects. Without any formal training or knowledge of art history (hello, she’s 4!), Aelita appears to have an innate grasp of colour, composition, texture and balance. What is also striking is the consistency of style in all her work. And the price point? Upwards of $9,900 each.

The Monster Engine

Dave Devries, comics illustrator and concept artist at Universal Studios, is the artist behind The Monster Engine, a series of full colour paintings based on children’s artwork. We think these images are really neat and the idea is even cooler.
