News Round-Up August 18: Burning Man with babies, a diet book for kids, Weezer covers the Muppets, a hidden dollhouse

What we’re reading today:

1. Would you take your kids to Burning Man? We would. Want some tips from people who’ve done it? Check out Red Tricycle’s Guide to Burning Man With Kids. Next thing you know your smalls will playing on the playa!

2. Some asshat wrote a book about a 14-year-old girl named Maggie who goes on a diet and then her life gets better. The book is aimed at 4-8 year olds. Here is the description on Amazon:

This book is about a 14 year old girl who goes on a diet and is transformed from being extremely overweight and insecure to a normal sized girl who becomes the school soccer star. Through time, exercise and hard work, Maggie becomes more and more confident and develops a positive self image.

Justin Roberts and OK GO Are So Alike

Justin Roberts, “Obsessed by Trucks”

What do Justin Roberts (one of our favourite kindie rock musicians) and OK Go (one of our favourite rock bands) have in common? Well, they’re both from Chicago. They’ve both won lots of awards: OK Go won for Best Short Form Music Video at the 2007 Grammys, and Justin was named Best Children’s Musician of the Past 30 Years by Time Out NY Kids (to name a few). They share an exuberant sound that’s garnered them Elvis Costello comparisons.

And as you can see, they both make amazingly creative videos. OK Go caught our attention with their brilliant video for “This Too Shall Pass,” and their latest video features two of our favourite things, IKEA and doggies. Justin’s videos might see him and his band playing underwater or teaching us about counting with cartoon speech bubbles. They’re like two peas in a pod. We think they should team up and play a show together, don’t you?
