Catherine Romano blogs about crafty projects for kids and parents
My family and I lived in New York City and one of my favourite times of year was Fashion Week. Designers, models, photographers and stylists flocked to midtown (although now the ‘tents’ are uptown, at Lincoln Center) and the energy was incredible.
So, in honour of New York Fashion Week (February 9-17) I wanted to design a little wearable work of art. Take a look at what I made:
Materials:
- White paper
- Markers
- Iron-On transfer paper
- Scanner/Printer
- T-shirt
Process:
1. Decide on your idea – I choose a cartoon-style family portrait
2. Sketch out your design
3. Make a copy of the design and experiment with colour choices – I found the more vibrant the colours the better the final t-shirt
4. Scan your coloured sketch, then print it out on the iron-on transfer paper
5. Iron the transfer to a t-shirt
6. Peel back the transfer
7. Tada! A one-of-a-kind t-shirt designed by you (and your kids)!
