There’s a general theory of parenting positing that kids must have a dog in order to learn responsibility. I’m convinced that the real allure of dog ownership is to have a tail-wagging being in the house who provides constant companionship and never says “I hate you!” Also, you can boss dogs around with no worry of backtalk.
