TV Moms From Claire Huxtable to Betty Draper to the Dowager Countess Share Their Wisdom

An excellent supercut of TV moms from Flavorwire

Who’s your favourite TV mom? Judging from this supercut, we’d say it’s a toss-up between Lucille Bluth from Arrested Development and Gloria Pritchett from Modern Family. Or maybe we should go with Cersei just because we love seeing Joffrey get slapped. Did they leave anyone out? Where’s Regina from Once Upon a Time? (or maybe wicked stepmothers don’t count?)

Jon Hamm Gives Great Advice to Teen Girls

From now on, whenever we have a quandary, we’re going to ask Jon Hamm

Tavi Gevinson’s site Rookie has a monthly feature called “Ask a Grown Man.” This month, answering the questions of teen girls is Mad Men star Jon Hamm. We think he does a fine job. Only date guys who want to make out with you and don’t worry about farting. Everybody farts. And gosh, do we ever wish that Jon would tell us more about these full-on tingly-stomach-feeling, nervous, obsessive crushes. Enjoy the Hunger Games!

News Round-Up March 27: Canceled Easter Egg Hunts, Mad Men’s Joan as a Mommy Blogger’s Dream and a SAHD Understands Betty Draper

What we’re reading today:

1. Today in Parents Ruin Everything, organizers canceled an Easter egg hunt in Colorado because last year some parents were way too aggressive in their egg-hunting and didn’t let the kids have their fun.

2. An Australian couple prematurely had their baby in B.C. and like most preemies, their baby required some serious time at the NICU, about $1, 000, 000-worth actually. It’s not covered in their travel insurance and Canada has no reciprocal health-care agreements with Australia. Solution: We keep Baby Piper! Kidding, her parents brought her back to Sydney, but what about that bill?

News Round-Up March 26: Parents Who Don’t Like Kids, Coming Out as Straight and About Those Placenta Pills

What we’re reading today:

1. You know how eating one’s placenta, whether in casserole or pill form, is said to be beneficial with regards to post-postpartum and breastfeeding? Here’s one mom on why she regrets falling for the hype. Remember when Meri was wondering what to do with hers?

2. Man, sometimes kids are the best. Tommy, a 4-year-old with two lesbian moms and a gay biological dad comes out to one of his moms. He’s straight.

3. Are you one of those parents who doesn’t really like kids that aren’t your own?

4. Mad Men-inspired baby names isn’t happening, according to a genealogy website. Except we’d kind of already heard the opposite. Sure we haven’t seen any baby Sallys, but we could so see Joans and Rogers and this site seems to have missed that the name Betty is totally en vogue again.

Mad Men-Style Family Cocktail Hour

Start a family drinking tradition with cocktail and mocktail recipes straight from the Draper’s bar

All of us at Bunchland HQ are jazzed for the Mad Men season four premiere this Sunday. We love the series for the glamorous vintage fashions and whip-smart writing. However, we’re perfectly happy to live in a time when excessive drinking and smoking are no longer cool and kids don’t go running around with dry cleaning bags on their heads.

Cocktail hour, on the other hand, is a tradition we’d love to revive. Not just for the boozy aspect but because taking pause at the end of a hard day of work or play and sipping something cool is delightful. However, mixing and sipping drinks doesn’t have to be an adults-only affair – some of the toniest bars in the world mix mocktails so mean you won’t even miss the alcohol.
