1. One mother left her kids for six months when she landed a career opportunity offer of a lifetime in Japan. Her marriage didn’t survive the stint and her husband got primary custody of the kids. Rahna Reiko Rizzuto says this made her a better mother. Via Salon
2. Learning to read is tough. Remember that scene in Billy Madison when Billy is mean to the kid reading aloud in class because he’s trying to score cool points or something? No one wants to hear “T-t-t-today junior!” when they’re struggling and trying their best. Enter Read Dogs. A school in Staffordshire, England is using greyhounds to listen to kids reading because the dogs can be well-trained, patient and won’t make any judgments about your reading abilities.
