An Album of the Year, and New Kid on the Way. Life is Good for Damian Abraham.

Hey hardcore fans, our pal Damian Abraham of Fucked Up is on the January / February’s cover of Spin Magazine!

The annual best-of issue declares Fucked Up’s album David Comes to Life the best album of the year. The personal and passionate rock opera in four acts portrays the anguish filled romance between David, a light bulb factory worker and Veronica, an activist. It received accolades from Pitchfork, Metacritic and The A.V. Club.

He may be donning menacing makeup and a wire top hat on the cover, but we know Damien to be a proud papa who lives for hanging out with his fam and cracking up his kid, Holden. In other awesome news, he and his wife Lauren are expecting a second child! We anticipate the next few years will be filled with lots of love, wacky adventures and killer music.

Damian Abraham’s Son Counts Down the Days Until Daddy’s Home From Tour

Touring parents have it rough

Fucked Up lead singer and Bunch reader Damian Abraham misses his boy Holden when he’s away on tour and Holden misses his dad right back. Every time he’s away for any length of time, he creates a countdown calendar for Holden — each day of the tour Holden and his mom Lauren put a sticker over the biggest number until it’s time for Damian to come home. Damian’s self portrait with thought bubble is the best.

We know there are other touring mommies and daddies out there in Bunchland; do you have any special traditions with your kids while you count down the days until you’re reunited?

Has Mother’s Day Lost Its Meaning?

Or is it still just about spending time with mom and appreciating all she does?

This feature originally appeared in Saturday’s Weekend Post
Mother’s Day as we know it was founded by Anna Jarvis in 1908, but even she felt that it quickly deteriorated into something lacking real sentiment. “A printed card means nothing except that you are too lazy to write to the woman who has done more for you than anyone in the world” she said. So, 103 years later, does Mother’s Day mean anything to the people it’s meant to celebrate? We asked some moms what they thought:

Bad Mother author Ayelet Waldman said, “I think Mother’s Day is a marvelous holiday. Personally, I like to loll about in bed with the newspaper and a cup of tea. My only reservation about it is that being too spoiled on Mother’s Day does up the ante for Father’s Day, a holiday I find pointless in the extreme.”
