On the very first day of kindergarten registration, when the queer mom didn’t know what to do, she asked the school administrator a question. The school administrator pointed to the ‘father’ section of the form and referred to the queer mom’s partner as her husband. And then the queer mom began to think long and hard about the convenience of the closer school versus the more-likely-to-be queer positive environment of the farther away alternative school.
