The Science of Baby Fever, Judging Parent Friends and Judy Blume is Just as Awesome as You’d Expect

What the cool parents are reading today: Judy Blume signing books

1. The science of baby fever and the ticking biological clock. It can strike anytime, but it most keenly felt by women in their late 20s. Sound accurate to you?

2. OK parents who are teachers, weigh in: are there parent-teacher wars? Have you known colleagues to quit teaching because of issues with parents?

3. Judging our pals’ parenting styles is real. One theory stipulates that our parenting styles are based on insecurities from our own childhoods, so if a friend judges our decisions, it cuts deep.

4. Did you grow up reading Judy Blume? Of course you did! Did you know she still kicks all kinds of ass? We’d love to talk to her about Katniss and add her to our Monday morning Mad Men discussion. Judy Blume will rule forever.

Ending the Mom War, Money on Play Dates and a Very Scary Mommy

What the cool parents are reading today: retro coffee ad featuring a 50s mom

1. The Mom Wars must end, says Mary Elizabeth Williams, who works part-time from home. “It’s in those moments when a spit-up-stained stay-at-home mom who hasn’t washed her hair all week looks across the drive at the polished executive mother heading off on a business trip. It’s there when a guilt-wracked, stuck-at-the-job mom sees the Facebook pictures of a mother boasting of her “magical” summer spent with the kids in the Hamptons. And when they both think, “That bitch has it easy.”

2. Speaking of judging other moms, have you heard of Scary Mommy? It’s a mom confession blog-turned-book and we’re thinking we need to read it right now. Um, “I joined a gym just for the free daycare. I drop the kids off and read magazines and blogs in the locker room.”? Gold!

“Well, That’s Enough Now, Dear” And Other Opinions People Have About My Growing Family

Stephanie Potter to big family haters: Just mind yo’ bizness

Inspired by fearless new mom Megan Pettit taking on the judge-y moms, Stephanie Potter sent us her thoughts on the judgers:

Every time I see those two pink lines I smile. Another baby. Another nine months of waiting and excitement. Then I frown a little as I remember the gauntlet of judgements and comments sure to come our way. My husband and I just celebrated our fourth anniversary in October, and this is our fourth pregnancy. Despite the fact that we are always inundated with comments of “Are you sure this is what you want?”, “What about your finances” and “Aren’t you busy enough?” from friends, family and strangers, we can’t help but want to share our joy with anyone who will listen. No one can dampen our enthusiasm. We were born to be parents. We’re not always great at it, but boy do we love it. However, in those nine beautiful months of planning and waiting there are always the comments. Here a few gems from this pregnancy and some previous ones:
