Celebrate Shark Week With Shark Cupcakes

Live every week like it’s shark cupcake week

It’s that time of year again when Discovery Channel devotes a week of programming* to help us learn all about the men in grey suits.

Is watching shark-themed programming together a tradition in your family? Or perhaps you have a kid or two obsessed with predators and sea animals? There’s something about a great nature show that just captivates the whole family.

To really get into the spirit of Shark Week, we recommend shark-themed treats, like say cupcakes. It’s really only the decorations that make these cupcakes sharky, so feel free to use your favourite cupcake recipe. You could, however, use a red velvet cupcake recipe as the bright red colouring might give the impression that you’re biting into a living thing, like a shark does. Or, if you’re raising your kids with an appreciation for dark humour, you could do strawberry jam or cherry-filled cupcakes.

5 Movies That Celebrate Summer

Our Beachy, Summery Bunchbrary

Welcome to summer! It’s June 21st and all we can think about is, “How fast can we get to the beach?” Days are long and it’s a perfect time to be out swimming, grilling hamburgers and riding our bikes to the ice cream parlour. Here are five movies that deal with all that is awesome (and a couple things that are scary) about summer.

1. Gidget (1959)

Frances isn’t into the idea of just sunbathing in a bikini in hopes of attracting some surfer dudes. After an incident with some kelp, she becomes interested in surfing and is given the name Gidget since the surfer dudes consider her a girl midget. Yes, it deals with some mature themes towards the end, when Moondoggie thinks that Big Kahuna is into Gidget, but mainly it’s about surfing and Gidget having the best summer ever.
