Killer Codeine, Perceived Overweight Meanies and How Much Weight Should You Gain During Pregnancy?

What we’re reading today: did jessica simpson gain too much weight in her pregancy?

1. Know that super pregnant celebrity who’s been pretty heavily criticized for gaining a substantial amount of weight during her pregnancy? Is that normal and she’s just being criticized because it’s an atypical celebrity pregnancy, or should women not put on that much weight?

2. Speaking of weight perceptions, preschoolers think that overweight kids are mean. Looking at Harry Potter bullies Crabbe and Goyle, do kids get these ideas from TV and movies, or do writers get these ideas from kids?

3. Kids are dying after being prescribed codeine post-surgery. What’s going on?

4. What do you do when you’re a big bookworm and your kid just couldn’t care less about reading?

5. We really do hope everything works out for Courtney Love, but what’s with this feud with the Muppets? And attacking genius Jason Segel? Here’s what set her off:

Alert Your Minions! Despicable Me 2 Coming Out Next Summer!

Here’s the teaser trailer:

We loved Despicable Me. The whole idea of an evil genius (Steve Carell) getting his heart melted (in a good way!) by three little girls, the fact that his nemesis was Jason Segel and of course, Gru’s many, many minions. We’d love to see what Gru, Margo, Edith and Agnes get up to this time! And, it looks like Vector (Jason Segel) will be back for the sequel. Good news indeed.

Writing Muppet Music and Weighing In On the Pizza-Is-A-Vegetable Thing

What’s new in Muppet news

You know that opening song from the Muppets, “Life’s a Happy Song”? Did you know it was written by Flight of the Concords Bret McKenzie? Makes a certain amount of sense and now that we go back and watch the opening scene again, we can see Concords all over it. McKenzie also wrote two other songs, “Me Party” and “Man or Muppet?” and says one of the hardest parts, aside from not breaking down any Muppet rules, is writing for Miss Piggy. “If Miss Piggy goes too high,” McKenzie tells the New York Times, “she sounds like a mouse. And if she goes too low, she sounds like a dude.”

News Round-Up Nov. 1: Helicopter Parents and Sports, Bad Parenting and Where Kids Get the Most Exercise

What we’re reading today:

1. Those pesky competitive moms! What’s one mom to do when her friend yells at her kid’s coach and other parents? Sister needs to take a time out!

2. The Onion published an article telling you you’re a bad parent and whatever you’re doing, you’re definitely screwing up your kids. It’s the Onion, but man did this story catch on.

3. Grownups get more exercise when they live in urban areas, walking to work and the grocery store and such, but it’s the opposite for kids. Do your kids have easy access to running around areas? We can think of at least a few downtown kids who manage to find a suitable road hockey zone on weeknights.

4. Is the work-life balance thing a myth?

5. Yeah, we’re loving basically any Jason Segel interview these days. If only Phineas and Ferb had let him talk about his Muppet purism.
