Crocheted Coral Reef

crocheted-coral

The Knit Cafe, in Bunch’s home city of Toronto, Canada, has taken inspiration from The Institute for Figuring‘s Toxic Reef project, designed to raise awareness about the plight of the Great Barrier Reef, and The Great Pacific Garbage Patch (a congregation of plastic waste in the north Pacific that’s 30 metres deep approximately 2500 km across). They have begun a soft reef, crocheted with plastic yarn. Visitors of all ages are encouraged to create their own crocheted or knitted plastic scenery and add it to the ever-growing installation. The interactive exhibition is open until the end of April.
