News Round-Up July 19: Old School Playgrounds, Co-Sleeping is Fine and Having Your Ex See You Let the Kid Get Hurt

What we’re reading today:

1. For those of you with teens and tweens, do you keep an eye on them via Facebook?

2. New study results: Co-sleeping does not harm your toddler, but it doesn’t provide any specific benefits either. So… continue doing what you’re doing, whatever your preference.

3. Are super-safe playgrounds actually causing some harm? Old school playgrounds with taller climbing structures and no soft surfaces to land on teach kids to be careful, whereas with today’s new, safer playgrounds, the kids may be overestimating the power of the rubber or wood chip-covered ground to prevent injuries.

4. Ever bring a bruised or scraped child when it’s time to drop off your kids with your ex? Ulgh the worst, right?

5. Is 9-year-old Brooklynn Paige Conley just a little too good at this?

Gavin McInnes: How to Unbreak Your Kid’s Arm

Gavin McInnes of streetcarnage.com shares his DIY medicine story after his daughter was injured in a round of midget tossing

My daughter Sophie is four-years-old and she’s just like any other girl her age except for the part where she’s much cuter and far more gifted. I don’t get to play with my kids much during the week but on the weekends we go to our cottage where I can really focus on Magna-Tiles, papier maché and midget tossing.

I throw my kids around like rag dolls. I’ll set up the bed with a duvet and all the pillows in the house and just throw Sophie and her two-year-old brother Duncan into the pile like I’m taking out the trash. It’s fun watching them soar and the faces they make mid-air are priceless.
