Chag Purim Sameach! Make These So-Called Perfect Hamantaschen

Three-cornered cookies to celebrate the deliverance of the Jewish people from one very evil and ambitious Persian.

Hamantaschen are named for the villain of Purim, Haman. He was Prime Minister of the Persian Empire during King Ahasuerus’ reign and he was not a fan of Mordechai, the queen’s uncle. Mordechai refuses to bow before Haman, Haman discovers Mordechai is Jewish, and so decides to wipe out the Jewish population within the empire. Things happen, Esther calls her people together, the king finds out that Mordechai actually saved him from an assassination attempt, and Haman is hung on the gallows that he himself had intended for Mordechai. So we eat cookies shaped like Haman’s three-cornered hat. Or his pointy ears.
