News Round-Up June 10: Explaining Makeup to Kids, Gwenyth Paltrow’s Thoughts for Pride and Where the Heck is Google Kids?

What we’re reading today:

1. Why doesn’t Google Kids exist? Good question! Great argument from a dad at Slate.

2. One mom swipes some blush across her cheeks and catches her baby daughter transfixed by and mimicking the act. Whoops.

3. What makes a great sensory playground? Washington Post parenting blogger Mari-Jane Williams tests three in her area.

4. Gwyneth talks family pride and acceptance on GOOP: “Two mommies? How lucky is she!?” Paltrow says to Apple after Apple’s learned that a girl in her class does indeed have two mommies.

5. Let’s all take a moment and think about our dance moves circa 1991, shall we? Also, this is a lesson to always record your kids doing awesome stuff that they will LOVE seeing 20 years from now.

What we’re reading on the blogs today:

The tiger cub responds! Basically: “Ya’ll are haters.” Sophia Chua-Rubenfeld wrote in the New York Post that people criticizing her mother just aren’t getting her humour. Chua-Rubenfeld says she and her sister are not oppressed by their evil mother: “That is so not true. Every other Thursday, you take off our chains and let us play math games in the basement.” And on a serious note: “I think the desire to live a meaningful life is universal… To me, it’s not about achievement or self-gratification. It’s about knowing that you’ve pushed yourself, body and mind, to the limits of your own potential.”

Oh, The Hairpin, how are you so good? Did you grow up reading the Babysitters’ Club? We pretty much learned the read on those books. By Emily Weiss’ math, the baby-sitters would be 37 now. Where are they now?
