Megan Pettit shares stories from a new mom
Right now I’m listening to my husband singing to my son as they chase each other around downstairs. Owen is laughing so hard he is basically screaming, and he’s crawling so fast, the slaps of his hands on the floor are echoing all the way upstairs to where I am, sitting on my bed, studying for the four tests I have this week. It is taking me everything not to run downstairs and join them.
I feel very lucky that I was able to quit my job and go back to school. And I really love the school that I am attending. It’s known as one of the best schools for the career I’m hoping to get into, which is why I commute to Toronto from Hamilton. I take three buses and two subway rides every weekday. It adds up to twenty hours a week commute time, give or take a few hours.
