The good doctor would be 107 today
Few authors have the ridiculous mass appeal and uber-success of Dr. Seuss so grab Thing One and Thing Two, break out the Who pudding and let’s take a look at what made Theodore Seuss Geisal great:
- Before writing kids’ books, he drew political cartoons during the Second World War
- Coined the word “nerd”
- He wrote The Cat in the Hat because he found Dick and Jane books boring and thought learn-to-read books could be livelier
- Banned from writing for a Dartmouth College paper because he was caught drinking and it was during prohibition, he secretly continued using his middle name
- When Thurl Ravenscroft didn’t get any on screen credit for singing “You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch,” Dr. Seuss wrote to every big newspaper informing them.
