Art Challenge: Wood Carving and Michael Jackson Tribute Art

The Bunch community is bursting with talent

When we told you about Aelita Andre, the 4-year-old darling of the art world with a brand new NYC show, we asked to see what sort of works Bunchlander kids were coming up with. We were totally impressed by 6-year-old Tyler’s mixed media portrait and now his older brother Jacob, 11, wants in on the action. Both boys are learning some serious skills at the Freehand School of Art. Here’s Jacob hard at work:

And here’s what Jacob had to say about his passion for art:

“I do a lot of schoolwork, sports and I play the guitar but art is something I like doing because it relaxes me..and there’s no homework. I really like to draw so my mom thought I could try something I’ve never done before with my drawings and make prints. Carving in wood is neat because you need a lot of patience but then you can print the same thing in different colours. You can even frame the wood block after.”

Art Challenge: Inspired by Gauguin

Tyler’s latest work

Yesterday we shared a post about the incredible 4-year-old art prodigy Aelita Andre who opened her first art exhibit in New York this week. We asked our readers to share with us some of the awesome artwork their kids are doing and we were not disappointed. Toronto-based Bunchlander Sonya submitted this incredible piece to us, made by her 6-year-old son Tyler, who is a student at the Freehand School of Art.  We were struck by the expressive face in this portrait, as well as the use of mixed media. Keep it up Tyler!

Have your kids been making incredible art? We’d love to some of your favourites. Send pictures to kelly@bunchfamily.ca or even upload them to our Facebook page or tweet a photo to @Bunchfamily on Twitter.
