The concept of bike sharing, or public bicycles is not a new one, but it has been problematic. In 1993 in Cambridge, UK, the majority of the 300 bicycles released for public use were stolen within a short period of time. Still, in efforts to make cities more bike friendly, and to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, public bikes seem to be a valuable part of the new city planning. Bikedispenser, in the Netherlands, aims to regulate the process just enough to ensure that a bicycle is available when you need it.
