1. U.S. President Obama came out in favour of marriage equality yesterday saying that same-sex couples have the right to get married. So what does this mean for Americans on the right side of the political spectrum? Is it going to “rile up the right”? Yeah, probably.
2. The American celebrities are proud of their president! Ellen DeGeneres said, “There have been moments in history when someone has the courage to stand up for what they believe in, and that one action changes everything.” Neil Patrick Harris said, “Bravo, Mr. President, and thank you.” and our pal Jane Lynch tugs on the heartstrings with, “Pretty darn happy today. What LGBT parenting news we’re reading today:

1. Of all the opponents to marriage equality, Maggie Gallagher “has done more than any American to stop same-sex marriage,” and all because she got pregnant while she was still in college?
2. What do you get when you cross a Maggie Gallagher with Veruca Salt? A 14-year-old Maryland girl who asked her state legislators to vote “no” on gay marriage for her birthday . She argued it’s a choice and kids of queer parents are missing out and how dare some people challenge the definition of the word “marriage” and blah blah blah. We’re going to go out on a limb and say when this girl turns 18, she’ll meet more people, do a 180 and learn some compassion. Read more...

I have a fear of being prosecuted by my alma mater. It’s not that I cheated on my degree. It’s that I worry they’ll strip my Women’s Studies BA away due to shameful anti-feminist activity. (So far, I’ve been ok, maybe there aren’t femi-nazi cops lurking around?)
The latest incident, my four year-old now has a Barbie doll. Don’t get me started on that one. Another reason, my long time fascination with large family reality TV shows on TLC. Has anyone else noticed the underlying Christian, conservative tone of all of these families? I mean, all of them? And yet, that Little People Big World mom is so awesome, I can’t help myself.
