What we’re reading today:

1. Parenting is so stressful these days. If you’re not getting your kids into the best pre-school class, you’re basically setting them up for failure their whole lives. One New York City mom is suing her daughter’s preschool because her daughter was lumped in with younger kids and the mother figured that was ruining her chances at an Ivy League education. And here we thought Glenn Beck saying the earthquake in Japan was a message from God was going to be the craziest thing we read this morning.
2. OK, maybe there is a lot of stress and anxiety in parenting. Parents in Los Angeles (and presumably elsewhere) are worried about competition, they’re hovering and they’re “just scared.” One pediatrician says, “Scared they’re going to do the wrong thing, not do enough, they’re going to miss the boat. It’s like they’re in competition from the minute their kids are born. Whose kid is crawling first, and why does my kid just sit here in my lap?” Via L.A. Times Read more...
