News Round-Up Oct. 19: A Husband’s Biological Clock, the Obamas and the Kardashians and Autism-Friendly Resorts

What we’re reading today:

1. A husband and wife both want to be parents, just not at the same time.

2. There are at least two beach resorts in Florida that advertise themselves as “autism-friendly.” The staff have been trained to meet the needs of autistic guests. Innovative!

3. Have you heard about this Chicago school teacher who, after forgetting to bring a lunch one day, decided to eat in the cafeteria with the kids? She was disgusted and from then on chronicled the school lunches on an anonymous blog. Now she’s got a book, Fed Up With Lunch.

4. Barack Obama doesn’t want his girls watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians, but Michelle Obama says she doesn’t mind as long as Sasha and Malia take away the right message: that Kim’s wedding was krazy. My takeaway: Michelle Obama watches the Kardashians with her daughters. Yes!!!

5 Astronaut/Cosmonaut Movies for Yuri’s Night

Our Yuri Gagarin Bunchbrary

Today marks 50 years since Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person to venture into outer space. Amazing. You might even say it calls for a celebration. World Space Party, anyone? So while your Yuri’s Night space party might include some rocket crafts, space songs and astronaut food, you might want to wind down with one or more of these astronomical films.

1. The Rocketeer (1991)

This 1930s period piece doesn’t have space travel per say, but it does have a young (& handsome, obviously) pilot who stumbles upon a secret prototype jetpack that allows him to become a spacey-looking superhero who fights Nazis. And though the movie was made well after Gagarin’s fatal test flight, he must have read comic books with Rocketeer-esque plots back in his pre-cosmonaut days.

2. Muppets from Space (1999)
