Beth Blenz-Clucas blogs about music for kids that grownups will love too
One of my cousins is in the process of moving from Indiana to Washington to join his wife and three kids who are already there. The anxiety and excitement of what they’re all going through reminds me of how we hauled two young boys back and forth across the continent twice before settling in our current place. It was all so disorienting and exciting at the same time. Long distance moves, especially when you tear yourself far away from extended family, truly force you to define what “home” means.
Touring musicians treasure the time they have at home. Perhaps that’s what inspired troubadour Billy Jonas to write his song “Some Houses” (featured on his Happy Accidents album). The song is a deceptively simple list of building materials, but it offers a deeper awareness of where all human structures come from. Ultimately, all houses rise from the ground, and this ground in turn lives in a house that’s spinning ‘round and ‘round. And we’re all in it together.
