News Round-Up July 20: Victoria Beckham Is Saving Reading, Grooming Your Kids and There Will Always Be Breasfeeding Controversies

What we’re reading today:

1. Nostalgia time! Did you go to sleepaway camp when you were a kid? Here’s what your summer camp experience says about you.

2. Breastfeeding controversies! A doll you can nurse and outrage at Ruby Tuesdays.

3. Can your toddler identify a sphere, cube and trapezoid? If not, better get them some tutoring.

4. How important is your kids’ appearance to you? Do you let them out of the house with messy hair and toothpaste-stained and/or mismatched clothes?

5. David Beckham admitted that the real reason his baby daughter Harper Seven is so named is because author Harper Lee is Victoria’s favourite. Sales of To Kill A Mockingbird have gone through the roof. And Prince Charles was worried that people would stop reading now that Harry Potter’s done.

Victoria and David Beckham Name Baby Harper Seven

By celebrity standards, Harper Seven got off easy

The blogosphere’s atwitter with news about the newest member of the Beckham brood – and her name. Joining big brothers Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz, Harper Seven was born yesterday morning in Los Angeles. Harper is relatively tame for a celebaby – it’s no Dweezil or even Apple –  and People reveals that as an old English occupational name, it’s long been one of Victoria’s favourites. As for Seven, the newest Spice Baby was born on a Sunday morning in July – seven a.m. on the seventh day of the week in the seventh month of the year. She weighed seven lbs. (and 10 oz). Plus, it was the number of David’s jersey number when he played for Manchester United and the English national team… Or maybe they just think George Costanza was on to something.

News Round-Up July 11: Too Much TV, Artsy Pregnancy Photos and Harry Potter Friday

What we’re reading today:

1. Kids love TV. Efforts to get kids to watch less TV and generally spend less time looking at screens have thus far failed.

2. New water treatment rules in Ontario. Less wading in pee, but with non-circulating water pools needing to be drained and refilled every four hours, it means more waiting around.

3. There is a ton of pain and discomfort when you’re pregnant/giving birth, but at least you didn’t have to give birth to a 16 lb. baby. OK, you moms of twins or more know what it’s like to have 16 lbs-worth of baby in your uterus, but still — wow.

4. An arty photo David Beckham snapped of his wife Victoria while she was pregnant and sunbathing has the Motherlode discussing the pregnancy photo chronicling thing.
