Do You Know Where Your Christmas Tree Comes From?

Andrea Woroch provides some tips on choosing the right tree

Of the Christmas tree decorating folk, there are those of us who like assembling the same fake one year after year, and there are those of us who wouldn’t put up with anything less than the real thing. It is pretty hard to beat the smell of a real tree. If you fall into the latter category, consumer savings expert Andrea Woroch has the following tips:

1. Ask Where It Came From
Some Christmas tree lots buy trucked-in trees before (American) Thanksgiving, meaning they’ll drop needles faster than airlines can raise their baggage fees. Weeks may have passed since those trees were originally cut, so always ask the vendor where and when they buy their trees.

What Does Your Christmas Tree Say About You?

Or could it be a little more you?

Christmas trees can be really polarizing: Real or fake? If real, chop down or not? If fake, green or silver/pink/blue/whatever? Tinsel or garland? Multi-coloured lights or all white? Uniform bulbs or a lovingly curated eclectic collection?

We find this chart from the Morning News pretty useful. Also, Annie Payne’s Christmas tree prognosticating abilities are pretty great.

We’ve thus far always stuck to a real tree, with a string of pearls, white lights, various bulbs, a collection of kid-made ornaments and for some reason, birds. We think it’s pretty accurate: somewhat outdoorsy, but also a little bit girly and a little bit crazy.
