Just don’t go confusing any boys for ingredients when you make it

In the Night Kitchen is the story of Mickey who floats up out of his bed and out of his pajamas one night and finds himself in the night kitchen. There, three bakers set about making the morning cake and they mistake Mickey for the milk! How does he get out of the batter? He kneads it into an airplane and flies away! But before he returns to his bed, he finds the milk that the bakers need to make the cake and knocks it into the bowl.
This book is frequently banned because Mickey runs around the pages in his birthday suit for much of the book. Banned book fan and baker Végétalion crafted a recipe for Mickey’s Morning Cake based on another morning cake recipe she found.

Cookie mogul Eden Hertzog shares recipes she enjoys with her family

Sorry I’ve been gone a couple of weeks; there was a three-day trip to Los Angeles (just me!) and then a sick Cedar and a sick Papa to contend with when I got home.
I’m pretty good with taking care of my sick toddler, but I must admit, I think I kinda suck at taking care of my husband. It wasn’t always this way; I do remember being more apt to making him soup or rubbing his feet or running him a bath, or at the very least – being nice to him. I have Cedar to blame for this. Not Cedar himself, but the whole Cedar-ness of our situation. We live with a really busy toddler who demands a lot from us. Neither one of us feels there’s much left to give after a day of running after or picking up or catering to the Little Guy. Read more...

Not your average sugar and salt switcheroo

April Fools’ Day food pranks date back to the Victorian Era, when a young lady named Edith Walrach got the early-morning surprise of her life. She was having breakfast at a friend’s house in Binghampton and she cracked into a hard boiled egg to have a mouse spring out! Her blithe host had stuck the critter in and then sealed the shell back up with plaster. We can imagine it shocked the tatted collar right off her. Our picks for April Fools’ Day food pranks are far from unsavoury- – your kids will get a pleasant surprise as they bite into a sweet treat disguised as something a little less exciting. They’re also fun and super easy to make.

Eden Hertzog is now a mom… and still hungry

Labour day. I remember what it felt like to be a kid on this day, oh-so-many years ago. It’s like a day out of time that splits two completely separate realities: carefree summer vs. back-to-school. I remember lying in my bunk bed not being able to fall asleep because I was so nervous and excited for what was in store, who my teacher would be, who might be in my class, what would be different or the same.
I feel all those feelings today. Fall is a good time to take a look at the last year – and my year was the first one with Baby Cedar. The rollercoaster of new parenthood took a nice coast of a ride through the summer. I loved being outside with him, going for walks, dipping in wading pools, getting messy with fresh peaches, and watching him gnaw on cobs of corn. I’ll admit, I’m especially sad to see the summer go this year. So in the midst of melancholy, I did what anyone should do when they feel blue: I baked! Read more...
mother's day
Recipes with no heat or knives required. Or even measuring cups. At Bunch we’re crazy like that.

Burnt toast and orange juice, while completely sweet, hardly qualifies as a fantastic breakfast in bed. Kids who really want to impress Mom this Mother’s Day, are going to have to pick up their game a little . These recipes are so safe and easy the kids can make them in the kitchen while mom luxuriates in bed. Theoretically.
