Make Earl Grey Scones for the Royal Wedding

The ultimate in Royal Wedding snacks

You can’t get much more British than piping hot scones served with a spot of tea.  This recipe combines the warm buttery goodness of scones with the flavour of the most royal of teas: Earl Grey.  These dainty delights would be perfect for any royal breakfast.  Or anytime, really.

You’ll need:

  • 2 heaping teaspoons Lavender Earl Grey tea leaves (you can buy these loose, or cut them out of tea bags.  You can also use regular Earl Grey tea)
  • 3 cups all- purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 sticks (3/4 cup) unsalted butter, cut into 1/2- inch pieces
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (for brushing)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (for sprinkling)
