News Round-Up Nov. 18: Mom Coaches, Occupying L.A. With Kids and Our Declining Birthrate

What we’re reading today:

1. Why don’t more moms coach? An excellent question! Aren’t many of the young moms these days the former high school soccer stars? Come on moms!

2. Moms trust other moms on what products to buy.

3. An L.A. mom brings her kids to the Occupy protests because, “The children have been aware of our bankruptcy and unemployment problems, and I hoped that seeing other people who have been similarly affected would give them a sense of being part of a larger whole.”

4. People just aren’t having babies these days.

5. Tennis legends as kids is pretty cute, but it feels weird to only show the boy legends. (Yes, we see that it’s for the Stockholm Open which is a men’s tournament, but still. It hasn’t been the best year for woman-friendly tennis ads, and we were under the impression that with a bounty of kickass women tennis stars, it was a pretty gender-equal sport.)

What we’re reading today:

1. Would you be OK with a peanut-free peanut butter substitute in schools? One London, Ontario-area educator says peanut butter substitutes have no place in our schools.

2. Fewer babies: A break for our crowded planet, or a danger to the economic growth?

3. In and around Washington, D.C., pediatricians’ offices are full to the brim with parents and kids. Why do these parents always go straight to the doctor rather than going to family and friends for advice?

4. A new study shows that 10 per cent of parents regret the name their chose for their baby. Anyone want to go to Gwyneth Paltrow for a comment?

5. Who’s excited for the Tin Tin movie? One fan is so excited he made a pretty slick looking trailer for it:
