What we’re reading today:

1. One mom’s story of going in for attachment parenting, and finding out what happens when she’s not as crunchy as she thinks she is and the most attachmenty of the attachment parents makes sure she knows it. It’s really too bad that one mom was so judge-y, sounds like a great group! Also, sounds like an episode of Up All Night.

2. OK, and it’s not super-parent-y, but we’re guessing some of you saw the Golden Globes last night? We continue to adore Michelle Williams and love that she mostly just shouted out her daughter with her acceptance speech and thanked her for letting her read bedtime stories in a Marilyn Monroe voice for six months. And speaking of thanking kids, we thought Peter Dinklage was pretty sweet to be stressed about his baby’s first night with a sitter. What were the other highlights for you? We liked anything Kate Winslet, Claire Danes’s dress and of course, Tina Fey’s nomination photobomb of Amy Poehler. (Poehler should have won!)  Read more...

What we’re reading today:

1. New mom Pink wrote an excellent rant on her site directed towards the paps who are stalking her family. They’ve got a new family photo shoot in People because she and husband Carey Hart want to be able to control the media’s access to their daughter. “We are so appreciative that people are interested in seeing our daughter. We WANT to share our joys with you, but as parents (and new parents), we should be able to govern these decisions, shouldn’t we?” Yes.

2. So we all know a bunch of Emma and Sarahs and Julias, right? All those Victorian names that started really coming back into fashion a couple decades ago are now on their way down again. Also on the list of names trending down are Grace and Ella, but we thought those names only super took off in the last five-10 years? The New York Times article suggests perhaps the lack of Jane Austen movies in theatres these days has something to do with it. (So bring on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies! The world needs more Elizabeths!)  Read more...

Bright young women

It’s the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. Yeah, a lot has happened in those 100 years — the right to vote, the right to stand for election, the right to choose, the right not to be treated like some Sterling Cooper secretary, but it’s not enough. What we’re reading on the blogs today:

Amy Poehler is awesome. We’re so glad Parks and Recreation is back soon. (Finally!) Check out the L.A. Times Magazine‘s interview with this hilarious mom. A sample: “When you’re doing sketch comedy and you’re pregnant, it’s like wearing a giant sombrero in every sketch.” And we’ll definitely be watching her web series Smart Girls at the Party later today.

Speaking of pregnancy and hilarity, remember Pregnant Chicken? She found all those excellent awkward pregnancy photos. Now she’s gone and made a list of some truly excellent comebacks to  inappropriate comments that people made during her pregnancy . E.g.”You’re huge!” “I don’t know why either, all I consume these days is cocaine and Diet Sprite. Weird, eh?”  Read more...
