Happy new year everyone! I hope you all had good, relaxing times with your nearest and dearest, and got down to some fine family eating. We did all of that, but mostly lazed around the house until we went to visit friends at a cabin in the woods for New Year’s Eve (which was so awesome!). Between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day I managed to make pancakes three times.
The first batch was for Cedar and Brian, and I made them with ricotta. The second batch was for my friend Selena, and I used up egg nog for that batch (so delicious). The third, and final batch, was on New Year’s Day at the cabin. I think that if New Year’s Day is any indication of what is to come, then 2012 is going to be cozy, full of warmth and connection, and smothered in blueberry sauce. Read more...

We waste too much. Yes you, and me, and most likely 95% of us living in the Western World. I notice this the most around the holidays, when consumption is at its absolutely peak. I am always bothered by the garbage bags and recycling bins that are dragged out after Christmas and how very full to the brim they are. Let’s all take a picture in our minds of what wrapping paper looks like, and now can we just stop using it?
As I step down from the soapbox I’d like to share this very small recipe with you that I consider to be a huge revolution for me: I made my own almond milk. I know that doesn’t sound like a big thing, but it’s our main staple in the household and I always feel a tinge of guilt when I see all those crushed empty cartons in the recycling bin. Read more...
