My career as a father started out badly. When I was around my baby I tried like hell to be a great, engaged parent—and then, when I had an opportunity, a night off, a weekend away with the boys, I went on these intense benders that started with beer and ended with cocaine and crack. Once I tried to quit, I discovered my predilection for partying was a heck of a lot harder to drop than I had expected—but quit I finally managed to do, in a journey recounted in my book, Superdad: A Memoir of Rebellion, Drugs and Fatherhood.
