AGO to the Rescue!
Art activities inspired by our pals at the Art Gallery of Ontario

If your family masters this and is ready to jump up to the next level, the AGO offers a course your little artist will flip for. As part of their spring semester of programming, a studio course called Comics and Cool! will teach the basics of human movement and animation.
The German word for flipbook, Daumenkino, translates to “thumb cinema” Sounds fancy, eh? Your kid doesn’t need to be a movie buff or an artiste extraordinaire to get jazzed about this craft though. Flipbooks are so awesome because they let you create your own little animated comic book right there in your hand, and bringing your own cool character to life requires only a notebook and a pen! Get ready to play some cool tricks on your eyeballs. Read more...
Kids take over the AGO for Family Day 2012!

The AGO will celebrate Family Day this year by transforming for one day only into the KGO – the Kid’s Gallery of Ontario! The gallery will offer a family friendly art-making extravaganza culminating in the creation of a day-long exhibition titled Kid Nouveau.
The iconic red AGO on the building’s exterior will be creatively reworked to reflect the gallery’s temporary name chance. Kids attending the event will be encouraged to channel their inner artists through the following awesome activities: Read more...
- Art making with instructors from the AGO Gallery School, providing kids with a chance to sample an activity from every AGO course offered, including structure creation and installation art.
- Installing their artworks in the Gallery by AGO exhibition designers as part of the first ever KGO Kid Nouveau Exhibition.
We think partying at the AGO takes the cake for superior birthday fun

While we could just tell you to have your kid’s birthday party at the Art Gallery of Ontario because it’s superfun, we figured we’d get a little more specific. Here are our top five reasons why you should book a party at the AGO:
1. It’s cold out there. Any hope of an outdoor extravaganza have officially been kyboshed by Old Man Winter. Set your kids’ imaginations loose in the most active and exciting indoor venue possible. Think fierce crafts, seriously fun games and plenty of exposure to some of the world’s most influential art.
2. They make for lasting friendships. Creative projects provide the best platform for teamwork, and the relationships formed around the craft table are often the most enduring, productive and happy. Read more...
Break out of the birthday party mold

The AGO is one of Toronto’s most unique cultural spaces, housing a collection of art and artifacts spanning from 100 A.D. to the present. This makes it an unbeatable destination for an imaginative and fun-to-the max birthday party, one your kid will not soon forget. What could be better than partying among the ghostly masterpieces of the Maharajah, the glittering tombs of King Tut, and the hi-tech installations of today’s leading artistic minds? Doing it all for free, that’s what!
Since we believe that the best birthday parties should incorporate some creative opportunities as well as a few surprises, we’re extending the chance to win an epic birthday celebration at the AGO!

The brand new Weston Family Learning Center is now open at the AGO!

A hub for creative family fun, the new space includes:
The Dr. Mariano Elia Hands-On center for Kids and Parents — This room really steals the show, complete with funky costumes and hats, oversized stuffed creatures and blocks, and a cubby wall full of trinkets. The space will be open Tuesday – Sunday, 10 – 2 PM.

A Community Gallery — A project space that aims to provide a platform for experimentation. It is currently showing “A Place Called Lovely” by Sadie Benning, co-founder of Le Tigre. The multimedia exhibit features video clips she filmed on a Fisher Price video camera when she was 18, and juxtaposes images from yearbooks, tabloids, and movies including Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.

We talked to 12-year-old Pranav, who’s been an AGO camper for the last three years

What’s great about summer camp at the Art Gallery of Ontario?
It’s a lot of fun. I really enjoy when they take us inside the gallery, show us the art and tell us stuff about it.
What’s your favourite thing you’ve done at the camp?
I went to the graffiti-themed camp and we got to use chalk to draw graffiti on the sidewalk. The rain washed it away the next day, but it was still really cool to do.
What other themes have you liked?
I liked the graffiti theme, the around the world theme was really good for little kids and I liked the surreal art and sculpture.
