Ben Miller’s son Ward was born three and a half months early on July 16, 2012. He spent the first 107 days of his life in the NICU, where his parents visited him every day.

Miller created a video of his preemie son’s journey from starting life as a one and a half pound baby to a thriving 15-month-old. He gave the video to his wife Lindsey on her birthday this November, the day after the first anniversary of bringing their son home. Within a few weeks, the video was widely shared by parents of premature children.

Watching Ward grow from a struggling preemie too tiny to be held by his mother to an active baby is beyond inspiring. As is seeing his mom wear her love and hope for her child on her sleeve:

But this is about more than a viral baby video to make us all verklempt. Miller’s video is giving parents of premature babies a sense of what  the journey is, from time in the NICU and beyond. Best of all, it gives a sense of what it’s like to bring your child home.

As Miller told TODAY: “Whether you are a parent of preemie, or going through anything like this, you just have to hang on. Dig in, have faith, and keep on keeping on.”
