Monster Factory is a gateway brand. My Auntie Debbie bought me a Lucy while I was pregnant with my first child and I knew I’d have to get knocked up again so I could have more monsters. I was incredibly excited when Rhya from Monster Factory dropped a customizable Ghostie off at Bunch HQ and asked me to take it home and draw on it with my family.

My crew had an excellent time collaborating on our Ghostie and there was some lively and invigorating debate about design decisions. I went head-to-head with Rose, 4, about mixing hearts in with the dots, but she made a really good argument for the need for variation in the pattern, and won the whole group over to her thinking.

Sam, 8, has a great eye but I really felt he’d jumped the shark with his idea to put black and white stripes on the Ghostie’s arms. He went to the mat for that concept and I’m glad, because it totally works. My partner was rather bossy about the dots and how they should overlap but it’s way more fun when the grown-ups have some skin in the game, right?

Bottom line is we all feel good about the outcome and now the kids are fighting about who gets to sleep with it. You can read more about the creation of our Ghostie Freddie Lee Dots on the Monster Factory blog and if you’re in Toronto, you can get a Ghostie of your own this Sunday at the Gladstone Hotel.
