Saturday Dec. 28 — Long Winter Kids!
LONG WINTER KIDS SATURDAY, DEC. 28 FROM 12-5 PM
location: The Great Hall at 1087 Queen St. West in Toronto
Being a parent is no excuse to stop hitting the cool events this holiday season.
Enter Long Winter Kids – an event that’s something in between a multifloor mini-carnival and an indoor block party! It’s the mini-version of Long Winter, but aimed at the pint-sized set. (The original Long Winter monthly events are Pay-What-You-Can mash-ups of music, food and art that launched in Toronto last winter.)
But the Long Winter Kids Dec 28th afternoon event is aimed at the 0 to 12 set — with a music and storytelling area for babes and toddlers, a recording and sampling Castle-Studio-Playhouse for kids, a photo booth, science MAGIC, How We Get Down: a dance workshop (where everyone is the teacher) led by John Caffrey, banner-painting, an art zone, a magic show, a jewellery-making workshop and so much more. Check out all the possibilities here.
There is music, of course, and its aimed to please kids and adults of all ages.
Organizer Josh Zucker of Toronto hardcore band Fucked Up conceived of a kids’ version of the grown-up event after spending the better part of this fall at home with a toddler. “Kids’ entertainment has been a big part of my life lately,” Zucker said. “A Long Winter Kids event just made sense.”
Long Winter Kids will be a daytime gathering with music and performances that range from Ali Eisner (the puppeteer behind ‘Jay’ of TVO’s Gisele’s Big Backyard and founding ‘Mamma Yamma’) to Long Winter regulars such as Hooded Fang, Space Chums and crowd-pleasers The Woodshed Orchestra.
The event is PWYC and is a fundraiser for The Campaign to End Indefinite Migrant Detention, so get your wildest duds on already and go. Set a calendar alert — you don’t want to miss it!
