5 Waffle Recipes for Eggo’s 75th Birthday

This past weekend witnessed a monumental occasion: The Eggo Waffle’s 75th Birthday! Who knew Canadians have been munching on these delectable delicacies since 1936?!
We just couldn’t let the opportunity to document this event slip by. Alas: Some recipes..
This waffle recipe combines the favourite flavours of tart green apples softened slightly under a comforting cover of melted cheddar cheese. Topped with a drizzle of honey and a granola crunch, this Eggo recipe brings the best of Mom’s apple pie to the breakfast table in a nutritious and surprising way.
Makes 1 serving
- 2 Eggo Waffles
- 1 green apple
- 2 -3 slices of cheddar cheese
- 1 tsp. (5ml) nuts, your choice
Drizzle honey as desired
If you are using a Panini Press: Slice apple and cheddar cheese. Place sliced apple and cheese between two waffles. Place assembled waffles inside a Panini press. Grill until cheese is melted and apples are slightly warmed. Drizzle with honey and place nuts on top.
If you are using a Toaster: Slice apple and cheddar cheese. Toast waffles. Place sliced apple and cheese between two waffles. Let stand for a few minutes, letting cheese melt. Drizzle with honey and place nuts on top
This recipe combines the familiar taste of maple with the tartness of applesauce and a splash of yogurt. The combination of flavours is surprisingly delectable, and a great way to start celebrating a birthday in delicious style.
Makes 1 serving
- 2 Eggo Waffles
- 1 Tbsp. (15ml) EACH maple syrup and apple sauce
- 1/4 cup (50ml) of your favourite yogurt
- 2 Tbsp. (15ml) granola mix
Toast waffles in a toaster, cut in half. Mix maple syrup and apple sauce together. Layer waffles with a spoon of apple sauce mix and a spoon of yogurt alternating sides. Waffle, yogurt, syrup, waffle, yogurt, syrup…after the last layer sprinkle generously with the granola. Easy!
Strawberries and apples are always a winning combination and this recipe brings them to the table on a tantalizing, warm Eggo, topped with soft, delectable cream cheese and a drizzle of maple syrup. Definitely worth getting out of bed for!
Makes 1 serving.
- 1/2 Tbsp. (7.5m) butter
- 2 Granny Smith Apples, peeled and cut into coreless wedges
- 2 Eggo waffles, toasted golden brown
- 2 Tbsp (30ml) strawberry light cream cheese
- 10-12 strawberries
Drizzle of maple syrup
Icing sugar to dust
Sauté butter and apple wedges until light brown in colour. Set aside. Wash, stem and slice strawberries, set aside. Toast waffles until golden brown. Once toasted, spread cream cheese evenly onto each waffle. Once spread, fan out 12 wedges of apples onto bottom layer, reaching edge of waffle. In centre of bottom waffle, fill empty space with maple syrup. On top waffle, fan apples with alternating sliced strawberries. Add a dollop of cream cheese into centre space. Drizzle maple syrup, dust with icing sugar and enjoy.
This recipe uses cinnamon waffles with apples and brown sugar to create an all-time favourite flavour combination.
- 3 tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 6 sets Kellogg’s Eggo Cinnamon Toast waffles (Follow the heating instructions on the box)
- 1 package frozen scalloped apples, thawed
Place sugar and flour in small bowl. Using a pastry blender, cut in
butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside for topping. Place heated waffles on baking sheet coated with cooking spray. Spoon apples evenly over each waffle. Sprinkle with streusel topping. Bake at 375° F about 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve warm.

- 16 Minis Homestyle waffles
- 4 slices Cheddar cheese, cut into quarters (3 ounces total)
- 4 thin slices Canadian bacon, cut into quarters (2 ounces total)
- 8 thin slices plum tomato
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves
Separate the mini waffles. Top 8 of the waffles with half of the cheese. Top each with 2 pieces of Canadian bacon and 1 tomato slice. Lightly sprinkle with basil. Arrange remaining cheese on top of tomatoes. Top with remaining waffles. Preheat contact grill for 5 minutes. Cook sandwiches on grill for 2 minutes or until cheese melts. To cook sandwiches in skillet, lightly coat large nonstick skillet with cooking spray. Heat over medium heat. Add sandwiches. Cook, covered, for 3 minutes or until cheese melts, turning once.
