Starts FRIDAY: Royal Agricultural Winter FairNov. 1 – 10

Ricoh Coliseum + Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place, Toronto

November is peeking just around the corner which means one thing: it’s Royal Agricultural Winter Fair time.

The Royal has been bringing country know-how to our city for 91 years, schooling urbanites on how animals enrich our lives decades before farmers’ market foodies came on to the scene.

As Karen Poncelet of the Royal Winter Fair told Bunch: “People think their food comes from the grocery store. We have this facility in the heart of Toronto that’s a real mecca for education on the role that agriculture, farming and equestrians play in our world — that people don’t necessarily know about.”

Some of this year’s highlights:

  • The animals! This year 4,000 animals will take part in the fair. Catch them at the Petting Farm, walk through cow barns, sheep pens or check out the new Animal Theatre where the President’s Choice Super Dogs will perform alongside rabbit jumping, Jack Russell racing and ‘Goats on the Go.’ (Admit it, you’re curious.)
  • The aMAZEing Food Journey is a maze that shows you where our food comes from. Throughout the maze visitors see how to plant seeds, grow grain and follow the journey right to the grocery store shelves.

BUNCH TIP: the Royal Winter Gallery is hosting ‘High Tea’ (reservations recommended) or you can eat at the family-friendly Hitching Ring restaurant and watch the horses warm up before their shows.
