How we remember cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin

We’re pretty blown away by the idea that a human first went into space 50 years ago today. Definitely a good reason to party. So who was this Yuri Gagarin? Here’s the basics and a few fun factoids about the Russian cosmonaut who took a 108 minute trip to outer space back in 1961. Sadly, Gagarin died during a test flight while prepping for his planned second journey into outer space. We honour his memory and his tremendous accomplishment by throwing a party in his name every April 12. That party is Yuri’s Night and there are Yuri’s Night parties going on all over the world. Even and especially on the International Space Station where at time of publication, the astronauts on-board are talking to the New York Times about the lasting memory of Yuri Gagarin.

What do you do at a space party?
