In 1961, two years before Where the Wild Things Are was written, Larry and Nina Chertoff’s family friend Maurice Sendak drew them a mural on their bedroom wall. Last February, the Chertoffs donated their mural to the Rosenbach Museum and Libary and the museum took the mural from its Manhattan apartment, wall and all.
The Rosenbach Museum and Library is home to over 10, 000 Sendak objects, including original drawings, preliminary sketches, manuscript materials, photographs, proofs and rare prints of Sendak books. In other words, a veritable treasure trove for Sendak fans.
They cycled with a guided group of like-minded parents and kids, so unlike the Family on a Bike, it wasn’t all cycling, all the time. Pepina took some breaks from peddling to let her mother tow her and sometimes just hung out in the kids’ van. They took part in other activities like paddling and fencing and obviously took in the fantastic history that the Loire Valley provides. And most importantly, Pepina enjoyed her first crème brûlée.

Kids are fun, and while we strive to find games and activities that are as much for the adults as they are for the kids, sometimes we just need adults-only time. Sometimes, we just want to chat with partners and/or best pals without worrying about tripping over a Bakugan. Sometimes, we need a staycation.
A staycation, hanging out and living the vacation life without leaving your hometown, is a great option for when you need a break but lack the time and/or funds for a full-on trip. Yes, if we weren’t worried about our carbon footprint and had all the time and money in the world, we’d be jetting off to a beach every other weekend. A must-see for anyone visiting New York between now and January
What would you give to get a “peek into the imagination of this brilliant innovator and creator of Kermit, Big Bird, and other beloved characters”? Jim Henson’s Fantastic World has been hanging out in Atlanta, Seattle, Chicago, Washington and now it’s made its way to New York.
What will you find at this exhibit? Fifteen puppets including Kermit himself (and Miss Piggy and Bert and Ernie and Rowlf), early drawings, objects from The Dark Crystal, photos of Henson working with his creations and excerpts from his films.
