AGO to the Rescue!
Art activities inspired by our pals at the Art Gallery of Ontario

If your family masters this and is ready to jump up to the next level, the AGO offers a course your little artist will flip for. As part of their spring semester of programming, a studio course called Comics and Cool! will teach the basics of human movement and animation.
The German word for flipbook, Daumenkino, translates to “thumb cinema” Sounds fancy, eh? Your kid doesn’t need to be a movie buff or an artiste extraordinaire to get jazzed about this craft though. Flipbooks are so awesome because they let you create your own little animated comic book right there in your hand, and bringing your own cool character to life requires only a notebook and a pen! Get ready to play some cool tricks on your eyeballs. Read more...

The Art Gallery of Ontario’s Jane Lott has some creative solutions for what to do this winter break.

Sure the kids will get plenty of games and toys over the holidays, but if they’re looking for a creative outlet over the winter break, have some fun making teeny tiny models of your favourite foods! If your family has a blast with this, you should look into the AGO’s Side by Side art class.
AGO Studio Program Coordinator Jane Lott explains this fun project:
Create “pretend” miniature food using plasticine, Model Magic, Sculpey or homemade playdough. It has to be miniature and as detailed as you can get to make it look real!

1. You can make “real” foods like carrots, hamburgers, eggs, and chocolate chip cookies, candy canes and gingerbread cookies or crazy mixed up foods like spaghetti pizza or macaroni sandwiches. Read more...

AGO Studio Program Coordinator Jane Lott explains this awesome project:
When making these styrofoam prints, we encourage kids to write simple aphorisms on the print (don’t forget to write backwards!!!) to leave as a surprise for someone or just make a beautiful print or a card!
