Rosh Hashanah Apple Heads

L’Shana Tova!

Last night at a family Rosh Hashanah dinner, Bunch founder Rebecca and her producer cousin Corey Marr had a simple yet genius way of keeping the kids entertained at the table: Apple Heads.

Rebecca and Corey used plasticine to make faces on the apples and gave one to each kid. The kids could then remake their apple heads, thus keeping them at the dinner table longer. We think grownups should also get in on the apple head caricature action. Kids sitting quietly at a holiday dinner? This year’s off to a sweet start indeed!

Need more apple crafts? Did you see Krista+Kids this week where they took on a Little House in the Big Woods-inspired pomander?

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Wimp Yourself

Who’s excited to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules?

Tomorrow the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s hit movie comes out. The movies are regular-old live-action, but fans of the book series will recognize the above cartoon as something Greg Heffley would sketch in his journal. (Don’t even call it a diary!)

This is how we might look like in the Wimpy-verse:

What about you? Make your own Wimpy Kid avatar here. We’re kinda partial to the clothing and accessories you can give your avatar at MadMen Yourself, and the awesome titles you can give your Scott Pilgrim avatar, but we get that this is more middle-school friendly.

If you’re a Wimpy Kid fan, show us your avatars!

Abstract Art Cookies

The easiest fun you and your kids ever had in 5 minutes

I went to the new Tequila bar on Ossington with a friend last Tuesday night and when I came home my husband had invented this very simple and surprisingly cool way to turn cookies after dinner into a Jackson Pollock influenced art making activity. I was super impressed and have vowed to go out for cocktails on weeknights more often since it clearly inspires my family to be creative! Anyone want to meet-up for a Tequila next week?

Materials:

Oreos or a similarly flat, sandwich type of cookie. A dark brown almost black cookie is best (aesthetically).

Cake icing tubes in an assortment of colours. We used the kind that are called “Scribblers”.

Steps:

  1. Give cookies to each kid and to yourself
  2. Place icing tubes on table where everyone can easily reach them
