Kodachrome Tribute

Today is the last day that Kodachrome will ever be processed. Last year, Kodak stopped producing the iconic color-reversal film that Paul Simon sang about. Dwayne’s Photo in Parsons, Kansas will develop the final roll today. Here’s a quick tribute to all the family pictures shot in Kodachrome colour.

Kodachrome
You give us those nice bright colors
You give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day, oh yeah!
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So Mama, don’t take my Kodachrome away

Bunchland and Sloan Dare You to Drum

Bunchland.com, Sloan’s Chris Murphy and Andrew Scott and their beautiful families DARE YOUR FAMILY to bang a drum and help raise money for the Stephen Lewis Foundation and the fight against AIDS in Africa!

We dare you, awesome kids and parents, to bang a drum and show your solidarity with African families affected by AIDS, who face big challenges everyday.

On Saturday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 5th there are free Dare to Drum workshops taking place in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary. All you have to do is register to attend, make a donation (we suggest $10 per person) and come to the workshop with your kids. You’ll take part in a drum circle, have lots of fun, and raise money for the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s A Dare to Remember campaign.

How to Make Colouring Books Fun for Grownups

Okay, admit it. Colouring in colouring books is really flipping boring. I really like drawing with my kids, but colouring books? Mind numbing. Except for the Taro Gomi ones and a couple of other notable exceptions. Well, Molly Lewis, whose hipster dinosaur colouring book hacks are all over the web this week, has figured out a way to make colouring books fun for grownups too. No idea if Molly is a parent, but the next time my son coaxes me into colouring his Transformers colouring book with him for 100 hours, I’m turning Optimus Prime into an Arcade Fire-loving, latte-drinking, retro sneaker-wearing hipster, or possibly a goth. Hipster Dora would be amusing too. So I’ve got both my kids covered.
